Mixed Matches report JUNE

Our unblemished record for the season came to an abrupt end when we were beaten 6/0 away to Oak Park. We came back with the only other match in June by halving at home against Donnington Valley.

This was a new fixture with a breakfast before the match and sandwiches afterwards. Donnington were very impressed with the hosting and the course and would have liked a return match, later in the season.

Unfortunately due to altered diary commitments (following all the wet weather we have had) this proved to be impossible. We will therefore try and fit in home and away matches in 2009.

There are still 7 matches to go so do put your name up for consideration! It would be nice to see some new faces.

Mixed Matches report MAY

We have come through May still unscathed in the mixed matches. Test Valley at home was a win 6-0 but then we are probably more used to the relatively heavy going with all the wet weather. We also have a lot more trees and interesting rough which definitely favoured the home players.

For the first time we played Dummer away and won 4-2. The match was held during the particularly wet weekend of the Bishopswood Salver which had to be cancelled. I was expecting a phone call right up until the last minute as the rain was still persisting at home. However we turned up to be asured by Jill White, the very optimistic Captain that it never rained at Dummer. The sun came out and we had a glorious afternoon. Friends up above?

Both matches were great fun and as usual on these occasions we made new friends and had an really enjoyable time socially, most of us ending up wet inside from the surfeit of liquid refreshment!

There are two matches coming up in June with a new format for Donnington Valley when there will be a breakfast beforehand rather than dinner afterwards.

Mixed Matches report APRIL

We are now about a quarter of the way through the mixed matches as so far have an unbeaten record. The six inches of snow in early April avoided testing our abilities at Basingstoke but we halved the match away at Hennerton, won the home match against Bearwood 5-2 and halved the home match against Wokefield. There was a little concern when the first 3 matches went to Wokefield but our backenders saved the day.

We are very short of 7 day lady members and in the event we are unable to raise a full team there is a space on the entry sheet for 5 day ladies, so please sign up for these very sociable occasions.
