THE COURSE HISTORY
Bishopswood Golf Course was the brainchild of George Blake and Mike Phillips back in the early 1970's when they saw the need in Tadley for some kind of sporting amenity. As single figure golfers themselves they decided to design and build a 9 hole golf course from 70 acres of scrub and woodland. With the able assistance of one talented greenkeeper the course was eventually completed and opened in April 1976, since which it has undergone many improvements. Our current greenkeeping staff Lee and Peter work hard to keep the course in the top condition that our members have come to expect.

It is a testing Par 72 (S.S.S. 71), 6474 yard (18 holes), and includes many challenges to suit all categories of golfer.

THE CLUBHOUSE
The clubhouse is managed by Belinda Phillips (Mike's daughter) who ensures that the highest possible standards of service are offered in all aspects of the clubhouse and its facilities.

Patrick Bridge is responsible for managing the bar and its staff and helps to ensure that we make your visit to Bishopswood an enjoyable one. A warm friendly atmosphere and a wide selection of beverages, including regular guest beers, await you in our clubhouse whether in our spikes bar or comfortable lounge bar areas. The bars also incorporate a dart board and a 3/4 size snooker table along with a fruit machine to amuse you after your golf game.
We also operate a members swipe card scheme which entitles you to 12.5% discount off all food and bar purchases.
Why not enjoy a snack from our extensive bar menu during lunch time or alternatively bring the rest of the family down for a evening meal or Sunday Lunch and choose from our superb restaurant menus. It is advisable to reserve a table, please phone us on 0118 981 2200.

Bishopswood Golf Club is a local, friendly club, where management, staff, and members, make their time spent - fun, enjoyable and wholly worthwhile. Our resident Professional Steve Ward provides a first class service both in the shop, but more importantly on our multi-bay driving range, where his coaching qualities from beginner to the experienced golfer are excellent.

A challenging mix of tight drives, hazards, long holes - but an ultimately rewarding course for the ever-improving golfer. The beginner and the established golfer will find the course an interesting test.

As a Club, we hold many competitions throughout the year. The Club is fully integrated - giving all members, the chance to be competitive, but ultimately to enjoy fun golf. We host an annual Hampshire Pro-Am tournament - which is over-subscribed by both Professional's and local golfers wishing to take part.

We have an active Diary of inter-club matches from the Seniors, Ladies, Gents, Mixed and Juniors, competing in friendly matches with local clubs, an excellent chance to play other courses in a competitive but fun way.

Our Clubhouse offers everything a 19th Hole should and much more. The Clubhouse is recognised in the CAMRA guide as a Real Gem, winning many awards over recent years. The Kitchen offers great bar food and an 'A La Carte' Restaurant menu, as well as Sunday lunches.

The Club hosts many Social events throughout the year - open to members and their guests, these evenings have been a real hit over recent times.

A LETTER FROM THE CLUB PROFFESIONAL - Steve Ward

Dear Prospective Member,

I am 48 years of age and have been the Professional at Bishopswood for the past 18 years. Prior to that I was the Professional at Ryde, Isle of Wight and cut my teeth as an assistant at Portsmouth Golf Centre, a career that has lasted 31 years.

I am married to Ali, a school teacher and live in Newbury. We have 2 children, Lucy 18 is at Bristol College studying sports science and Tom 16 who attends St Bartholomews School in Newbury.

Although having previously won the Wilson Southern Club Pro Championship and the Hampshire Matchplay Championship, my duties at Bishopswood have curtailed my playing diary and I now concentrate more on the day to day running of the Pro-Shop, the Driving Range and starting players on the course. I also spend a lot of my working week instructing golfers of various abilities in any aspect of the game, including developing a very successful Junior Academy. With our superb facilities we are able to teach in all weathers including evenings since the driving range is both covered and floodlit.

We are fortunate to have Pauline, who plays representative golf for Berkshire, and Lucy at weekends assisting in the fully stocked shop. Whether you have enquiries about the Course, the Club, your Game or Equipment please do not hesitate to ask and we will endeavour to assist and make your time at Bishopswood an enjoyable one.
